Jonah 1:7-17 Purpose in the Storm
Verse 7: People tend to rationalize within the limitations of their own thinking. People tend to seek answers apart from God rather than seeking Him first. Quick fixes are not always ideal. Some storms that come in life are caused by things that we have done, omitted, disobedience, or because a specific work needs to be done in us. Storms can renew our minds.
Verse 8: Self examination and examine those around you. We need to be mindful of those in which we make covenant and know the spirits that are in operation. Storms also come because of the assignment that is on the anointed.
Verse 9: Certain storms reveal our true identity and exposes intentions, beliefs, doubts, etc.
Verse 10: God's position in our life is revealed. People that are not Christian and may not even go to church can have revelation about us. People could have heard about God but particular situations are presented to make those looking on to known God. This can show up in conviction and godly fear.
Verse 11: When you are anointed and have an assignment,it is good for some people to push you away so you can get in line and also they won't suffer damages. Ex. People will suffer consequences if they disrespect the anointing or put their mouth on the one anointed. They can suffer sickness, loss, etc. (Miriam versus Moses, 42 kids versus Elisha, Jezebel versus the prophets)
Verse 12: We have to be honest about what is going on and why. Many people blame others and everything except themselves. We must find the common denominator. If everywhere you go there is the same issue, it is time to look in the mirror.
Verse 13: God allows chaos to remove you from people to make you do what needs to be done. He will do it to separate you for preparation.
Verse 14: People will begin to pray differently and see things differently when the storm rises. They have to acknowledge that God is real, all wise, all knowing, and cannot be beaten. Some that did not serve Him before the storm will confess Him afterwards. Storms increase faith in many while purpose is discovered for the pain.
Verse 15: The intensity of the storm will not cease until the desire of God is fulfilled. If it has to burn, fall off, turn around, get out, etc, it will be according to His will.
Verse 16: Men get converted when they see how God shows up in the lives of His people.
Verse 17: Private conversations and guidance of God occur in the storm. Jonah was guided to the perfect spot for him to find his sanctuary. There is a process to be a sanctuary and to be in the true sanctuary of God.
